Fishermen continue to be assisted in offshore fishing

On June 1st, at Ly Son Island district of the central province of Quang Ngai, diverse humanitarian delegations visited and presented gifts to families of fishermen. The event expresses the nation’s appreciation for those who persevere to fish offshore and thereby affirm the country’s sea and island sovereignty.

According to Dan tri newspaper, the youth union from the Ministry of Public Security worked with the Hanoi Medical University and the Vietnam National Academy of Music to present 600 national flags, 400 life-jackets, 150 consignments of medicine and 1,500 toothbrushes to fishermen.
In addition, the delegation donated a urine test machine to the district medical station.
During the visit, doctors and nurses in the delegation provided free medical check-ups and medicine to 700 people.
On the same day, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in Quang Ngai Province worked with the Bao Long insurance corporation to give support to 50 disadvantaged families of fishermen active at the Spratly and Paracel fishing grounds. In addition, 150 packages of medicine were presented to the fishermen.
Earlier, on May 31st, the Ministry of Health gave 300 packages of medicine to 300 fishing boats engaged in offshore fishing in Ly Son District.
At present, Ly Son District has 426 fishing boats, including 150 boats of above 90 CV capacity. So far in 2014, eleven attacks have occurred on the boats from Ly Son District. In May 2014 alone, 6 boats were attacked and destroyed by Chinese ships./.
