Overseas Vietnamese in Australia, including intellectuals, experts, scientists and entrepreneurs have expressed outrage at China’s illegal placement of the Haiyang Shiyou-981 drilling rig in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf, blatantly violating Vietnam’s sovereign rights, jurisdiction and international laws.

The overseas Vietnamese have showed their full support for the Government and People of Vietnam in protecting, building and developing the internal forces of the country.

Economic expert, Prof. Tran Nam Binh, from the University of New South Wales, said that China’s recent actions in the East Sea may be a step to solidify their “U-shaped line” and gradually control the East Sea, which Vietnam and the world cannot accept.

He went on to point out that the government of Vietnam should control more closely and strictly punish bad elements, who have always sought ways to incite people to do illegal action, adversely affecting Vietnam’s image on the world stage.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Hiep, an expert on environment and atmosphere from Australia’s Department of Environment in New South Wales, emphasized that this is the time for Vietnamese people in the country and abroad to unite and raise a common voice to protect the country’s sovereignty.

According to Mr. Dinh Quoc Dung, a retired engineer, he has always looked towards the homeland’s sea and islands and been indignant towards China’s actions in the East Sea. He said that Vietnamese people in the country and abroad need to link together to combat the illegal actions of China in the East Sea.

Many overseas Vietnamese and graduate students in Australia agree that the Overseas Vietnamese community in Australia and elsewhere in the world should contribute more to Vietnam’s economic development in many fields, including science and technique, academics, investment and business to strengthen the country’s internal forces.

The overseas Vietnamese also expressed the desire that Vietnam’s policies and laws continue to be upheld in order to encourage increasing numbers of overseas Vietnamese to contribute to the development of Vietnam./.
