Singaporean PM underlines int’l law in dealing with East Sea issue

Speaking at the Washington-based Council on Foreign Relations on June 24, PM Lee said from the point of view of a country which must survive in an international system where there are big countries and small, and the outcomes cannot be determined by might is right, international law must have a big weight in how disputes are resolved.

The PM affirmed that while it is not a claimant state in the East Sea, Singapore supports efforts of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) in negotiating with China a Code of Conducts (COC) on the East Sea in order to manage and resolve territorial disputes.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is on a visit to the US to mark the 10-year anniversary of a free-trade agreement between Singapore and the US./.
