Two weeks after construction, on September 8, the undersea cable system linking the mainland to Ly Son island in the central province of Quang Ngai before the stormy season, 10 days ahead of schedule.

Over 120 experts, engineers and workers successfully connected the undersea cable system from the mainland in Binh Hai commune, Binh Son district to Ly Son island district.

According to Mr Nguyen Hong Thai, General Director of the Sun Elect Construction Company, the pulling of the undersea cable system to bring power to Ly Son island is more difficult work than others due to the complex geological ground and too deep sea bed.

Engineers worked 20 hours per day on the barge at sea.

Mr. Thai said that convenient weather over the past 2 weeks facilitated the connecting of the cable system from the mainland to the island.

The tide ebbed away, creating favourable conditions for experts and engineers to connect the cable at sea, to a power station in Dong village, An Vinh commune, Ly Son island district.

A diver inspected the undersea cable near the shore of the island.

Le Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director, of the Sun Elect Construction Company, said that the Vietnamese side had learned much from foreign partners in mastering technologies and related equipment.

Mr. Tuan, a diver, shared his happiness at the successful bringing of the cable system to the island after a hard-working time.

Experts continued to check the cable system before a trial run, which is expected to happen on September 15. The project to connect Ly Son island to the national grid required capital of over VND652 billion.

The project includes 8.7 kilometers of middle voltage transmission lines in Binh Son district and 26.2 kilometers of 22kV undersea cables. Ly Son island district lies in an open planning of over 45,300 hectares in the Dung Quat economic zone which was adopted by the Prime Minister, playing a key role in protecting the national water territorial waters.
