The Overseas Vietnamese Association in France on October 19th organized to raise funds to support fishermen at the Vietnam Culture Centre on Ly Son island of Quang Ngai Province.

The event, collecting EUR1,300, aims to encourage the spirit and support fishermen on Ly Son island. They have been steadfast on the sea and firmly defend the sacred sovereignty over the sea and islands of the nation.

A previous collection by the same organization gathered EUR3,000, so a total amount of EUR4,300 will soon be transferred to Vietnam to support fishermen in the island district.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tong, member of the Advisory Board of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in France, said that overseas Vietnamese in France were very touched before the image of fishermen overcoming all difficulties to continue to catch fish offshore.

Through their activities, the overseas Vietnamese in France want to show their solidarity with the people in Vietnam, as well as show their affection toward their homeland.

Mr. Tong also said that in the two years of 2013-2014, the association has implemented many other social and humanitarian projects to support citizens in Vietnam, worth a total of EUR69,000.

The projects have been implemented in five provinces in the country, including construction of rehabilitation house in Muong Khuong district of Lao Cai province; support of people affected by floods in the Central region and families living in difficult conditions in Ha Tinh province; research and application of molecular biology into HIV screening in the Central Highlands; and training staff on molecular biochemistry in France./.
