Southern province grants contact devices for fishermen

To help fishermen conduct effective offshore fishing, the Tien Giang provincial Directorate of Fisheries has provided an additional 10 high frequency (HF) wave contact devices integrated with Global Positioning System (GPS) to 10 fisheries exploitation teams.

According to Nguyen Trong Tuy, Head of the provincial Directorate of Fisheries, the devices, costing VND28 million each, were given to fishermen thanks to the capital earmarked for flood and storm prevention and rescue work.
He added that in 2013 and 2014, the province had provided 18 HF wave contact devices with GPS worth VND500 million for production teams at sea and expects to provide a further 10-15 devices to fishermen in 2015.
The assistance aims to encourage teamwork at sea in order to increase mutual support in fisheries production and rescue work at sea.
As the province encourages the development of group production work at sea, so far 20 groups have been established and operated efficiently./.
