The Vietnam Environment Administration under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) has recently worked with the Ly Son district People’s Committee in the central province of Quang Ngai to put into operation a solid waste treatment plant.

The plant is the first of its kind and is being piloted on the island by the MONRE.
The plant was built on an area of 2 hectares with a capital of over VND30 billion. It operates in 3 shifts per day with the capacity of 250-500 kilograms of waste per hour.
The treated waste should become fertilizers, hopefully encouraging better use of the land on the island and increasing its productivity and value.
Statistics show that tens of tons of waste are produced on the island each day and without treatment the released waste was a significant source of environmental pollution. The plant will help to improve the living environment for islanders as well as for coral and seaweed grounds in coastal areas./.
