More than 3,000 Vietnamese people living in Germany organized a meeting and demonstrated against China in Alexanderplatz square in German city of Berlin to protest the building of artificial islands on Vietnam’s Truong Sa archipelago.
Before the march, all the organizers and thousands of overseas Vietnamese commemorated soldiers who heroically sacrificed their lives to defend the frontier, the sea and islands of the nation.
During the march, on behalf of the Vietnamese young generation in Germany, the Southeast Asia Campaign Group, representatives of the Overseas Vietnamese Community throughout Germany and Vietnamese-German Bridge Association delivered speeches on the rising levels of tension in the East Sea caused by China building artificial islands on Vietnam’s Truong Sa archipelago.
In particular, all the speeches expressed concern about photos taken by US satellite showing that China has recently moved heavy weapons to some artificial islands.
Representatives of the groups and associations called upon China to stop unlawful activities contrary to international law, especially the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 (UNCLOS 1982) and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) to maintain stabilization and peace in the region.
Then the march, hundreds of meters long with the participation of many international and German friends paraded to the front of the Chinese Embassy in Berlin. Many banners with content of showing Vietnamese determination to protect the sovereignty of the islands against Chinese invasion. There were also messages from the protesters submitted to the Chinese administration which is currently causing tension in the East Sea.
On behalf of the march, Mr. Vu Quoc Nam, Chief of the Federal Union of Vietnamese in Germany read a protest letter to send to the Chinese Embassy in Berlin and expressed the aspirations of the Vietnamese community in Germany of asking China to rightly stop the illegal construction activities in the East Sea.
Mr. Valdez, representative for the Filipino immigrants in Germany also read a statement calling for peace in the East Sea and expressed the solidarity with Vietnam. The march ended with the sending the protest letter to the Chinese Embassy in Berlin.
The peaceful march of Vietnamese people in Germany showed the solidarity and patriotism of overseas Vietnamese, confirming the spirit of hospitality, peace-loving of people of Vietnam as well as the determination to protect territorial integrity, borders and sacred islands of the nation./.
