(CPV) - On November 23rd, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Directorate of Fisheries organized a meeting on building expansive fishery centers in Hai Phong, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Kien Giang and Can Tho.

At the meeting, delegates agreed that the centers shaped around the key fishing grounds will create a lever to promote the ‘blue’ economy in general and the seafood economy in particular, as well as improving the effectiveness of public investment capital in development policies and plans in the seafood sector.

According to the Directorate of Fisheries, the shaping of the six big fishery centers needs more than VND14.5 trillion, in which VND5.2 trillion come from the state budget, government bonds and ODA capital, VND1.6 trillion are from PPP (Public Private Partnership) capital and over VND7.7 trillion are mobilized from enterprises.

Five out of the six fishery centers will be constructed in association with the key fishing grounds, including Hai Phong with the Gulf of Tonkin, Da Nang with the East Sea and Hoang Sa, Khanh Hoa with Southern region and Truong Sa, Ba Ria - Vung Tau with Southeastern region and Kien Giang with Southwestern region. Meanwhile, the rest will be located at Can Tho city in combination with breeding and processing in the Mekong Delta.

Khanh Hoa province has defined investment location and plan at Silver Stone Port while the remaining localities are surveying the location.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development asked the localities to kick off the construction of the fishing centers from 2017 and complete those in 2019 or 2020. The ministry will submit document to the Prime Minister for approval./.
