The information was announced during a meeting held by the provincial People’s Committee on March 31st to review the implementation of the decree over the past one year.

Addressing the meeting, delegates agreed that the decree was a major policy that suited fishermen’s aspirations, creating impetus for the development of fisheries production, especially for increasing offshore fishing, raising productivity and fishermen’s income, and reinforcing the nation’s sea and island sovereignty.

The provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that apart from the loans, fishermen have received a wide range of insurance policies. Accordingly, 90 fishermen have accessed vessel body insurance, and 766 fishermen have enjoyed vessel accident insurance, with a total assistance of over VND1.6 billion.

In addition, the province has organised training courses for fishermen in operating steel vessels, conducting exploitation techniques, and preserving seafood products with advanced technology on vessels of 400CV capacity or more.

During the meeting, Nguyen Huu Dung, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, stressed that to better implement the decree, banks needed to promptly address lending procedures and disburse the loans conveniently.

“The provincial People’s Committee will mobilise sources to invest in maritime infrastructure, sheltering areas for fishermen to avoid natural disasters and fishing logistics services,” he said./.
