150 experts share experiences in maritime security and development

(CPV) - Through the EU-Vietnam Strategic Dialogue Facility, the EU Delegation to Vietnam and the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV) is co-organizing a high-level workshop from June 9th-10th, in Ha Long city, with the theme “Maritime security and development: International cooperation and European-Asian experience-sharing”.
The workshop aims at providing a platform for European and Asian experts, academics and policy practitioners to exchange views, share experiences and consult on best practices in promoting international cooperation that allow them to work out effective policy responses to traditional and non-traditional maritime security challenges, foster sustainable development of maritime resources and enhance global ocean governance.

It is also expected to enhance national and regional capacities to tackle maritime security issues and to make best use of maritime resources to serve respective national and collective development needs.
More than 150 participants from Central Vietnamese government agencies and ministries, key officials from several Vietnamese provinces, as well as representatives of foreign diplomatic corps and academic/research institutions have discussed various aspects of the maritime issues in Europe and Asia, including traditional and non-traditional maritime security issues, maritime management and development, multinational maritime governance and coordination mechanisms, rule of law and approaches to dispute settlement are discussed.
The EU-Vietnam Strategic Dialogue Facility is a three-year program (2013-2016) funded by the EU that aims to support Vietnam's development through the implementation of activities in areas covered by the EU-Vietnam Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) signed in 2012./.
