So said Dang Tuyet Em, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Kien Giang provincial Party Committee and Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Council.

According to Ms Em, Kien Giang province ranks third in the Mekong River Delta in the number of Khmer ethic minority people, with nearly 51,000 families and 216,850 people, accounting for 12.5% of the province’s population.

A majority of Khmer people in the province live in remote or border areas and work in agricultural production. Over the past years, the province has actively carried out the Party and State policies towards Khmer people, bringing practical efficiency, especially in giving production and residential land, vocational training and employment.

To give production land to the remaining over 7,800 Khmer families, the province will help families redeem mortgaged land, revoke inefficiently used land from farms and forestation yards, and cultivate fallow land.

To help Khmer people improve their living standards and reduce poverty among Khmer families, the province will focus on giving non-agricultural vocational training to rural laborers, and provide stable jobs in industrial zones inside and outside the province./.
