Lai Son island commune, belonging to Kien Hai district, has an area of over 1,095 hectares, and is home to some 2,000 households who live mainly on fisheries, plantation, breeding and services. At present, 90% of the households use power from diesel generators which causes difficulties in islanders’ production and lives.
The project to bring the national grid to the island involves 43.9 kilometers of 110kV electricity line, including 19.4 kilometers on land and 24.5 kilometers crossing the sea; and a transformer station with two transformer machines.
The project has also built and upgraded 13.5 kilometers of mid-voltage line and 11 kilometers of low-voltage line, constructed 13 transformer stations with a capacity of 2,080 kVA, and installed meters for nearly 2,000 households on the island.
The project, invested with VND468 billion, is expected to be put into operation by late August.
Meanwhile, 526 families living around an area of 3.8 square kilometers on Hon Nghe island in Kien Luong district who live on fisheries exploitation, aquaculture and service provision are also expected to gain access to the national grid instead of using diesel oil for power generation.
Under the electricity project on Hon Nghe Island, with investment of some VND140 billion, 16.4 kilometers of mid-voltage line on land, nearly 20 kilometers of line cross the sea and on the island, and 8 transformer stations with a capacity of 975 kVA are being built, bringing the national grid to 2,229 islanders.
The project is expected to be completed by September./.
