Binh Dinh province to benefit submarine power cable project

(CPV) - The project will be implemented from 2017-2020, including over 10 km of submarine power cable, 288m of ground power cable, and 4,846m of aerial power cable, with a total investment of nearly VND350 billion.

Chairman of the Binh Dinh provincial People’s Committee Ho Quoc Dung has approved this project for Nhon Chau island commune (also known as Cu Lao Xanh commune) of Quy Nhon city.

The Central budget will cover nearly VND300 billion.

Islanders currently use power from diesel generators from 17h00-23h00, while renewable energy sources are falling short of demand.

During summer time, the timetable is added 09h00-15h00. Each year, the province has been subsidized around VND1 billion to meet the power demand of the people.

According to Mr Phan Van Binh, Chairman of the Nhon Chau commune People’s Committee, one of three electricity generators in the island did not work, thus this submarine power cable project should actively contribute to the socio-economic development of the commune, especially the sea and island tourism sector.

Nhon Chau is one of the nation’s outpost islands and plays an important role in the national security and defence program, including maritime economy and national sovereignty.

It is home to over 500 households, with a population of around 2,000. Their income is mainly from weather-dependant on-shore fishing activities.

Last year, Nhon Chau was officially reorganized as a part of Quy Nhon city to enjoy the Government’s preferential policies./.
