Over 40 outstanding ethnic minority individuals in the northern province of Thai Nguyen were honoured by the provincial Ethnic Minorities Board for gaining excellent achievements in developing ethnic minority-inhabited regions, during a meeting held on November 7th.

Thai Nguyen province has 46 ethnic groups, including 45 ethnic minority groups with over 302,000 people, accounting for 27% of the province’s population.
Over the past years, the Party and State have issued diverse guidelines and policies for ethnic minority-inhabited regions and mountainous areas, which have helped improve ethnic minority people’s material and spiritual lives.
The policies include the socio-economic development program in extremely disadvantaged ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous regions, the policy to support production land, residential land, housing and safe water for poor ethnic minority people, the policy to provide some publications and magazines for ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous regions, the project to boost socio-economic development and stabilize production in extremely disadvantaged villages mainly inhabited by the H’Mong ethnic minority, and the policy to allocate iodine salt to residents in 124 mountainous communes of the province.
The implementation of the policies revealed a number of outstanding individuals who were pioneers in production, boosting economic development, contributing to building new style rural areas, enriching cultural life and protecting national security.
During the meeting, delegates discussed and shared experience in tackling difficulties in socio-economic development in ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous regions, focusing on changing the economic structure, selecting seedlings and animals, and dealing with production land shortages among some families.
Apart from 41 outstanding individuals, the provincial Ethnic Minorities Boards also awarded insignias to 19 others./.
