Quang Ninh province boosts sustainable poverty reduction in ethnic minority inhabited regions

In an attempt to help poor families and poor communes strive in escaping poverty for themselves, the northern mountainous province of Quang Ninh, apart from realizing the poverty reduction policies of the whole nation, have combined diverse resources in investing in production and creating means of subsistence for the poor.

Statistics based on multi-dimensional poverty reduction standards applied for the 2016-2020 period show that the number of poor families and those living near the poverty line in extremely disadvantaged villages and communes is over 9,600, accounting for 64.57% of the communes’ families.

In realization of the program on boosting socio-economic development in extremely disadvantaged communes in ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous regions in the next five years, over VND1.7 trillion will be spent supporting the development of extremely disadvantaged communes and villages.

Besides the central and provincial budgets, the province has mobilize other resources from society, assisting extremely disadvantaged villages and communes completing the essential infrastructure, boosting production and raising local residents’ cultural and social quality of life, in an attempt to bring 100% of extremely disadvantaged villages and communes out of the extremely disadvantaged situation by 2020.
