Nguyen Van Phuong, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said agencies will be responsible for mobilizing capital from legal sources or sponsors to assist poor families expanding their production, seeking jobs, building adequate housing, and gaining access to medical and educational services. The agencies will also support school equipment and the building of cultural houses, as well as the lighting system on rural roads.
In particular, agencies will help communes in disseminating scientific knowledge for more effective production, creating more jobs for poor people by changing plantation and animal structure, thus contributing to boosting rapid and sustainable poverty reduction.
Over the past time, poverty reduction programs in poor communes in Nam Dong and A Luoi districts have focused on disbursing capital to give production loans and land, as well as technology to build up effective breeding and plantation models.
Statistics show that the province has invested nearly VND110 trillion assisting nearly 119,000 poor families with access to production capital, and providing 154 hectares of land for 835 poor ethnic minority families who lack production land.
There are currently 23,600 poor families in the province, accounting for 8.36% of its population; and 14,033 nearly-poor families, presenting 4.97% of its population.
So far 100% of poverty reduction policy beneficiaries have been granted medical insurance; 3,337 pupils have been provided with educational support; 1,285 rural laborers have been given vocational training; and 14,370 laborers have got jobs.
The provincial Department of Labor, War-Invalids and Social Affairs is suggesting central ministries and sectors adjust preferential interest rate from the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies in order to help poor families access more loans for production and housing.
The efforts aim to reduce the poverty rate in the province to 1.5-2% by 2020./.
