Accordingly, each text message with the content “UH” sent to 1409 will contribute VND20,000 to the assistance effort. The money collected is expected to be used to buy essential goods, give housing and livelihood support to the affected people.
In early August, torrential rain was reported in several northwestern localities, especially in Yen Bai, Son La and Lai Chau provinces, killing 26 people and leaving 15 others missing, sweeping away 230 houses and damaging over 400 more, forcing 400 families to evacuate, and causing losses of over VND940 billion.
On August 8th, the VRC Central Committee issued an appeal calling on organizations and individuals to support flood affected people.
Earlier, on August 4th, in its the first aid effort to the affected localities, cash and goods worth VND1.5 billion were allocated to the most seriously affected families in Yen Bai, Son La and Lai Chau provinces.
