Over 2.83 trillion in preferential loans reached beneficiaries

In the 2003-2017 period, the Ho Chi Minh city Bank for Social Policies has gained the outstanding balance of over VND2.83 trillion of nearly VND2.85 trillion in social credit, Director of the bank Tran Van Tien has said.

He put forth the figure during a meeting held on October 12th to review the implementation of social policy credit in the city.

According to Mr. Tien, the preferential credit has focused on programs involving job creation, poverty reduction, rural safe water and environmental sanitation and education.

From now until 2020, the city Bank for Social Policies is expected to give loans to 100% of poor or nearly-poor families and other beneficiaries who are in need of loans; and worked with authorized agencies to instruct them how to do business and transfer technologies to them, in order to help them promote the efficiency of loans.

Addressing the meeting, Nguyen Thi Thu, Vice Chairwoman of the city People’s Committee, praised the bank for making contribution to assisting over 225,000 families escaping poverty; giving business loans to 56,000 families whose land is revoked for other purposes; and supporting the education of 88,000 pupils and students./.
