Cao Phong, a previous poor district in the northern province of Hoa Binh, has become famous for its trademark Cao Phong oranges.

At present, over 5,000 families in the district plant oranges on nearly 1,653 hectares, producing some 33,000 tons of fruits in 2017. As the oranges suit the district’s soil, they develop well and produce high quality products.

So far 50% of the orange area has reached standard of Vietnamese Good Agricultural Practice (VietGAP) and the figures are expected to reach 100% in the next season, according to Bui Van Dong, Deputy Head of the district Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Despite lower prices in the previous season, the high productivity and area has encouraged planters to invest in the product, making it a key product for boosting poverty reduction.

The orange garden of Le Van Na in Cao Phong town produces some 90 tons of orange each year, which are sold at some VND30,000 per kilogram.

The trademark has brought high economic efficiency to gardeners.
