With 1.2 hectares of asparagus planted in net houses, the Hong Thai communal cooperative in Hanoi’s Phu Xuyen district harvests 70 kilograms of the product each day, earning some VND7 million.
There is an area of 3 hectares of asparagus in Hong Thai commune, including 1.2 by the communal cooperative.

The products are classified.

Asparagus is suitable for growing on alluvial soil mixed with organic fertilizer. After seedlings have grown for 60 days, asparagus is planted in rows. Each mother plantation has a life cycle of 70 days. There are 4 trees in each shoot, which can produce asparagus for about 10 years.

After harvest, the shoots are in hibernation to accumulate nutrients.

Asparagus is cleaned and cut according to contracts.

“Asparagus planted in net houses brings higher productivity than in natural conditions,” said Vu Thi Hong Thuy, Deputy Director of the Hong Thai communal cooperative.

Asparagus is sold at VND60,000-150,000 per kilogram.

The white asparagus is harvested when it grows 2-3 centimeters from the ground. This is the first time the white asparagus has been planted successfully and with high productivity in Vietnam.

In March 2018, visiting Phu Xuyen district, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung pledged to support the expansion of asparagus production to up to 120 hectares.

The white asparagus provides high nutrition and economic value.

The asparagus growing to 30 centimeters will become green asparagus.

Planting asparagus in the net houses will help prevent insects and grass.
