In late May and early June, the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau steps in to rainy season. When the rains begin, the Mong, Ha Nhi and Mang ethnic minority people in the highlands districts of Tam Duong, Than Uyen, Phong Tho, Sin Ho and Muong Te begin a new crop.

They channels to flood the fields, which are then ploughed in preparation for the summer rice crop.

Terraced fields stretch along the mountains, and reflect the sky. They wear new clothes of water. Together with the green of the rice seedlings, they create charming scenery.

Residents in Ta Leng commune, Tam Duong district, work the ground preparing for a new crop.

Water is left into the fields for a new rice crop.

It takes great efforts to create these terraced field systems running around the mountains.

Many families now use mechanized equipment to plough their fields.
