Indonesia hopes to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Vietnam in vocational education

(CPV) - Indonesian Minister hopes to strengthen bilateral education cooperation with Vietnam, especially in the field of vocational education and teachers’ capacity building as well as in addressing common education challenges in South East Asian region.

Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Prof. Muhadjir Effendy accompanied by Indonesian Ambassador in Hanoi H.E. Ibnu Hadi, Director of Southeast Asian Minister of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Secretariat Dr. Gatot Hari Priowirjanto and officials of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia has a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Education and Training Vietnam Prof. Phung Xuan Nha in Hanoi on July 23rd, 2018.

The meeting is part of the minister's working visit to Vietnam on July 22nd - 25th, 2018 in his capacity as the President SEAMEO Council for 2017 – 2019 period. The bilateral meeting has reaffirmed the commitment of the two countries to continue the implementation of the Memorandum on Understanding (MOU) on Education Cooperation signed on August 23rd, 2017.

The meeting also underlined Indonesia's desire to learn from Vietnam's best practices and experience in implementing the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA).

Indonesian Minister appreciated the achievements of Vietnam in PISA which in 2015 is ranked 8th out of 70 countries for Science, 22nd rank for Mathematics and 32nd for literacy.

Realizing the importance of language in improving mutual understanding between the two countries, Indonesian Minister extended a commitment to increase support in teaching Indonesian language in Vietnamese universities.

The Minister also asked Vietnam to open Vietnamese language courses in Indonesia. In this regard, the Ambassador of Hanoi also expects the support of Vietnamese Government in the establishment of Indonesia Studies Center at Hanoi University.

The MOU on the establishment of the center was signed by the Embassy of Hanoi and Hanoi University in 2015. As the President of SEAMEO Council, the Indonesian Minister conveyed its mission in Vietnam to not only enhance education cooperation between the two countries but also between Southeast Asian countries under SEAMEO.

After Hanoi, the Minister will head to Ho Chi Minh City to visit SEAMEO RETRACT (Regional Training Center) and SEAMEO CELLL (Center for Lifelong Learning) to take a closer look at the efforts of both centers to help SEAMEO member countries to improve their skills and provide training in the field of education management and lifelong learning. Ending his working visit in Hanoi, the Indonesian Minister visited Da Phuc High School in Soc Son District.With good student achievement and high student participation at university, college level, Da Phuc High School has received many awards from the Vietnamese Government./.
