Statistics show that the number of trainees to Japan increased sharply. In 2013, for the first time, more than 10,000 Vietnamese labourers were sent to work in Japan; and the figure increased to over 30,000 in 2015 and over 54,000 in 2017, and the total number of Vietnamese trainees in Japan is some 126,000. Vietnam has exceeded China to become the country with the largest number of labourers and trainees sent to Japan, among 15 countries.
The number of Vietnamese labourers going to work in Japan is forecast to continue to increase with the local new revised immigration law to go into effect from April, which allows the country to receive 345,000 foreign labourers in the next 5 years, thus opening up more opportunities for Vietnamese labourers.
According to Tran Thi Van Ha, Head of the Communications Department under the Overseas Labourer Management Department, at first, Japan will receive labourers in 14 industries, including construction, shipbuilding, agriculture, nursing, production of food and beverage, accommodations, restaurant, fisheries, housing hygiene, forging and casting, electronics and power and information, automobile maintenance and aviation.
Last year, other labour markets following Japan for Vietnamese labourers were China’s Taiwan (over 60,000), the Republic of Korea (over 6,500), Saudi Arabia (over 1,900), Romania (over 1,300), Malaysia (over 1,100), Algeria (over 1,000), Kuwait (nearly 800), and others./.
