Mulberry season in Hanoi

Traders reach mulberry gardens in Hiep Thuan commune, Hanoi’s Phuc Tho district, to buy the fruits with the average price of VND15,000 per kilogram.

In early April, the mulberry fruits ripen. They will be harvested within about one month.

The mulberry fields lie next to a river which provides rich alluvium. On an area of 15 hectares, local residents expect to harvest 250 tons of fruits, doubling the harvest in 2018.

The mulberry fruits are harvested annually as they are small and easily damaged.

“Each season, the bumper crop from 70 trees helps my family earn some VND70 million,” said Phan Thi Tham, a planter.

The quality of the fruits depends much on the weather. Sunny weather will make sweeter mulberries.
