Since the beginning of 2020, COVID-19 has been developing unpredictably in many countries, including Vietnam, affecting the sending of workers to work abroad. This situation has been gradually improved as recently, some prestigious labour markets such as Japan and the Republic of Korea (RoK) have had programs and activities to recruit Vietnamese workers.

Continuing to bring seasonal labourers to RoK
According to the Foreign Labourer Management Department under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA), a pilot program on sending seasonal labourers to the RoK in 2018 and 2019 sent nearly 1,000 labourers to this country. After 3 months of work, each labourer earned some VND80-100 million.
This program created favorable conditions for workers, especially the poor, the elderly and agricultural workers, to improve their income. The Korean side also highly appreciated the effectiveness of the program, thereby contributing to solving the problem of shortage of agricultural manpower in some Korean localities.
To deal with labourer shortage, on December 24, 2019, the RoK issued visas for foreign labourers in 5 months. The Vietnamese Government has allowed MOLISA to continue the implementation of the program.
Japan to receive visa applications from Vietnamese citizens
The Japanese Embassy in Vietnam has announced it is receiving visa applications from Vietnamese citizens since July 29. Accordingly, Vietnamese nationals using a direct flight between Vietnam and Japan will be granted visas to Japan for long-term residence as managers, engineers, intellectuals, nursing and high quality labourers.
At present, the RoK and Japan are Vietnam’s trusted partners in sending labourers to work, with nearly 50,000 Vietnamese labourers working in the RoK and nearly 200,000 to Japan./.
