Contemporary Vietnamese art displayed in Paris

As many as 50 paintings of Vietnamese contemporary art collected since the 1930s are being displayed at an exhibition launched in the District 5 of Paris, France on June 28.

The event aims to mark 50 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and France (1973 – 2023) and 10 years of their strategic partnership (2013 – 2023).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mayor of the District 5 Florence Berthout expressed her hope that the exhibition would help French visitors and international friends more understand about the development of contemporary Vietnamese art.

Philippe Charlier, Director of the Research and Education Department at the Museum of quai Branly–Jacques Chirac, said that the artworks draw inspiration from Vietnamese people going about their daily lives.

He added that each painting tells the story of the country and people, vividly expressed through an array of colours.

Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang expected that there would be more exhibitions held in France in the coming time to help the Vietnamese community in France, French visitors, and international friends gain more knowledge the Vietnamese traditional culture.

The exhibition will open until July 15./.
