Ho Chi Minh City disburses VND196 billion for unemployed labourers

Nine days after the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee directed the implementation of support policies (July 5), nearly 131,000 freelance labourers have been supported, said Le Minh Tan, Director of the City Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, on July 14.

According to Mr. Le Minh Tan, Ho Chi Minh City has 230,000 freelance workers supported with VND1.5 million per person, and 80,000 unemployed labourers supported with VND1.8 million per person. Individual business households meeting difficulties in social distancing in Go Vap District, Thanh Loc Ward, District 12 and other blockade areas are supported with VND2 million per household. These groups of people received the second support package from Ho Chi Minh City with VND886 billion.

Up to now, nearly 131,000 people have received support with a total amount of nearly VND196 billion. Among 230,000 self-employed labourers, there are 34,000 motorbike drivers and 20,000 people selling lottery tickets.

Mr. Le Minh Tan said from July 15, Ho Chi Minh City will focus on paying support to 80,000 workers in businesses that had to stop working or lose jobs; 60,000 business points in traditional markets and about 9,000 individual business households stopped operating./.
