The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR) announced on October 2 that Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) has officially begun trial operations following a period of theoretical and practical training for employees of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Company Limited No. 1 (HURC1).

According to MAUR, the trial operation will be conducted in two phases. In the first phase, Japanese consultants will oversee the operations, while in the second phase, HURC1 staff will take over.
The trial run will last until November 17, covering 47 different scenarios, ranging from normal operations to emergency situations such as fires, explosions, power outages, flooding and signal loss at various points along the metro line.
During the trial phase, the trains will run similarly to commercial operations, with a 4-minute and 30-second interval between each train. Operational staff from all positions will be mobilized, including train drivers, control center operators (OCC) and station personnel. A total of 71 employees will participate in each shift, with two shifts operating per day.
Currently, system safety experts from the BVT (a joint venture between Bureau Veritas of France and TEDI of Vietnam) will monitor and assess the proficiency of HURC1 staff in handling emergency situations.
It is expected that from November 18 to November 30, the system safety evaluation consultants will complete safety assessment reports, which will be submitted to the Vietnam Railway Authority for review in accordance with the Railway Law.
Based on these assessments, the State Council for Construction Acceptance under the Ministry of Construction will conduct the final inspection and approve the project for commercial operation, which is expected to begin in December 2024./.
