Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has seriously affected socio-economic life in Vietnam. In which, children are also severely affected, especially children infected with COVID-19 and children orphaned because their parents died from COVID-19.

According to incomplete statistics from the Departments of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of provinces and cities nationwide, there are nearly 2,500 orphaned children due to COVID-19. Tens of thousands of children fall into difficult circumstances because their parents lose their income, or have to follow their families to migrate from big cities to the localities. Many children lack online learning facilities, and some are even at risk of dropping out of school.

The Party and Government have paid great attention to and promulgated many guidelines and policies on social assistance for social protection beneficiaries, and on support for children in difficulty due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The state budget has supported children infected with COVID-19 and children who have to be isolated to prevent and control the COVID-19 pandemic; children of pregnant women infected with COVID-19, those whose parents died from COVID-19, and those whose father or mother died of COVID-19 and who live in difficult circumstances.

Children are among the hardest hit victims of the pandemic. Statistics showed that COVID-19 has left 2,352 children orphans, mostly in Ho Chi Minh City (1,584) and southern localities such as Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Long An, Dong Thap, Tien Giang and An Giang.

So far, the NFVC has provided VND7.78 billion to children orphaned by COVID-19 and offered aid of over VND7 billion in cash and kind to 12,800 others affected by the pandemic./.
