Donald Trump to visit Hanoi after APEC summit

The White House has announced US President Donald Trump will go to Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi for an official visit after attending the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week which will be held from November 6th-11th in Da Nang city.

On November 11th, the President will travel to Hanoi where he will have bilateral engagements with his counterpart Tran Dai Quang and other senior Vietnamese leaders.

“In the speech, the President will present the US’ vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific region and underscore the important role the region plays in advancing America’s economic prosperity,” said the White House announcement.

Vietnam is the fourth stop of President Trump’s tour to five Asian countries next month. During the tour, Mr. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will visit Japan, the Republic of Korea (RoK), China, Vietnam and the Philippines.

The six-day APEC Summit will open with other world leaders, including China’s Xi Jinping and Russia’s Vladimir Putin, expected to attend.

Established in 1989, APEC comprises 21 economies, including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the US and Vietnam.

Vietnam joined APEC in 1998, and hosted APEC in 2006.

The preparations have been made to welcome leaders and delegations from the 21 APEC member economies, along with nearly 10,000 other delegates, international journalists and world-leading entrepreneurs./.
