Japanese wishes Vietnam successful organization of APEC summit 2017

On November 2nd, Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono attended a working session with 10 ASEAN ambassadors at the headquarters of the Vietnamese Embassy in Tokyo at the invitation of Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Cuong, President of the ASEAN Committee in Tokyo (ACT).

On behalf of Ambassadors of 10 ASEAN nations, Ambassador Cuong sent congratulation to Mr. Shinzo Abe who has been re-elected as Japanese Prime Minister.

Besides, he also congratulated to Mr. Taro Kono for his re-election as Foreign Minister on November 1st.

Mr. Cuong expressed his sincere thanks for the Japanese Government’s support for Vietnam hosting the APEC Year 2017, especially the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Da Nang from November 6th - 11th.

He affirmed that ASEAN appreciated Japan’s assistance for ASEAN's central role and solidarity, and its initiatives to promote the Japan-ASEAN strategic partnership, such as a “Partnership for Quality Infrastructure”, Mekong-Japan connectivity, management and sustainable use of Mekong water resources and human resource training in maritime security.

Ambassador Cuong also expressed his hope for thriving ASEAN - Japan cooperation in the future.

For his part, Minister Taro Kono said he is delighted to attend the meeting of APEC foreign and economic ministers in Da Nang on November 7th and 8th.

Minister Kono in turn said he was very pleased to return to Vietnam to attend the APEC Ministerial Meeting, and wished Vietnam success in organizing the upcoming APEC Economic Leaders’ Week./.
