During the meeting, VPDF Vice President Nguyen Van Huynh informed the delegation of Vietnam’s achievements in diverse areas, especially in external relations. According to Mr. Huynh, although adjustments have been made in Vietnam’s external policies to suit the current situation, it is consistent in making friends with all nations in the world, and considers people-to-people diplomacy a pillar.

Sharing Vietnam’s activities in promoting peace and solidarity, Mr. Huynh said that over the past years, the country had joined diverse peace and friendship organizations in the world, while the VPDF had regularly carried out research activities and information exchanges as well as events on peace promotion, including international seminars and anniversaries.

The friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and other countries is not only reflected in the support and cooperation between organizations and associations, but also among individuals and friends who have silently made contribution to Vietnam’s development for the past many years, Mr. Huynh emphasized.

For his part, the head of the delegation, Mr. Frank Joyce, expressed his pleasure at the positive activities to promote peace as well as social and economic progress in Vietnam in the last 6 years since the delegation’s visit to Vietnam in 2013.

The two sides also discussed challenges for Vietnam and the world in the development process during the meeting, agreeing that to solve these problems, international solidarity is an essential factor to ensure peace, security and stability, not only in political and military aspects but also in the fight against the threats to human survival such as climate change, environmental pollution and epidemics.

On this occasion, Mr. Frank Joyce also shared with the VPDF about the collection People Making Peace: Lessons from the Anti-Vietnam War Movement, composed by the delegation members which will be released on July 11th.

At the meeting, the VPDF presented the delegation a book on the memoir Nguyen Thi Binh: Family, friends, the country, with many true stories and dozens of precious documents on Vietnam’s friends./.
