At the meeting, Consul General of Vietnam to Shanghai Ninh Thanh Cong briefly presented the important achievements of Vietnam in 2019. Under the right leadership of the Party, the Government and the joint efforts of sectors, levels and people at home and abroad, Vietnam continues to maintain political stability, security and defense; Socio-economic development is fast and sustainable, people's living standards are constantly improved, and GDP growth is over 7%, the highest among ASEAN countries.

The Consul General shared that Vietnam-China relations continue to maintain a positive and stable development trend; High-level contacts are maintained regularly as Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in April 2019 in Beijing, and Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan paid an official visit to China and Jiangsu province in July 2019.
Vietnam - China trade revenue continues to create a new record, reaching about 160 billion USD; China has become one of the major FDI sources of Vietnam.
Mr. Ninh Thanh Cong also said that the cooperation between Vietnam and Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang was further promoted; exchange activities took place bustlingly; the two sides actively researched and promoted the expansion of mechanisms and fields of cooperation in order to promote supplementation and enhance cooperation for mutual benefit.
The diplomat affirmed that the Consulate General always attaches importance to and endeavors to well perform the affairs for overseas Vietnamese and citizen protection; and respect and appreciate the valuable contributions of overseas Vietnamese people, businesses and students in community building.
Besides, he hoped that in the coming time, the Vietnamese community in Shanghai will continue to promote the patriotic tradition, national pride and solidarity, join hands to build a cohesive community, promote the image of the country and people of Vietnam, Vietnam-China friendship and cooperation and make practical contributions to the cause of national construction.
Representing the overseas Vietnamese in Shanghai, Mr. Dieu Manh Tuong hoped that he would continue to work with the Vietnamese community in Shanghai to build a growing, united community to make specific, practical contributions to the homeland.
On this occasion, Vietnam Airlines presented four round-trip tickets as lucky gifts at the beginning of the New Year for overseas Vietnamese people and students at the meeting.
