HCM city book street creates reading culture destination

HCM city book street started its operation on Nguyen Van Binh street, district 1 on January 9th, 2016. After more than year, the street has attracted 1.5 million readers.

The appearance of HCM city book street brought a new strong wind to reading activity in the city in general and reading culture in particular. Over the past year, 15 activities such as book exhibitions, and photo exhibitions on Uncle Ho and overseas Vietnamese in France and Truong Sa.

Children are keen on reading books at the street 
In addition, there were 18 activities in association with political campaigns, festivals and seasons of the year, such as Spring fair to welcome the new year, Vietnam Book Day, European Cultural Days in Vietnam and book for children in summer. More than 100 exchanges were held to introduce books to readers.

According to statistics, as many of 19 pavilions of 14 publishers and book distribution companies sold books worth of over VND26 billion. Students to the book street account for 30%, adults for 30%, and teenagers accompanying their parents for 15%. Foreigners to the street account for 25%, as it is situated in the tourism center of the city.

The street welcomed foreigners such as representatives from ASEAN Publishing Association, Irish Prime Minister and his spouse, British Foreign Secretary, and US Consulate in HCM city./.
