Prime Minister praises doctors for first lung transplant success

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan phuc has sent a commendation letter to professors and doctors from the Vietnam Military Medical University and Military Hospital 103 for successfully performing the first-ever lung transplant in humans in Vietnam.

In his letter, the Prime Minister said this successful transplant has marked a crucial progress in the development of Vietnam’s medicine. He commended the hospital’s brilliant achievement, noting that together with the achieved success in kidney, liver and heart transplant, the successful lung transplant has affirmed the competence and qualification of Vietnam’s physicians as a whole and those of the Vietnam Military Medical University in particular, contributing to increasing the prestige of the national medicine.

The doctors’ brilliance has beautified the tradition of the Vietnam People’s Army and the health sector and contributed practically to celebrating the 62nd anniversary of the Vietnamese Doctors’ Day (February 27th, 1955-2017), he said.

The Prime Minister wished doctors from the Vietnam Military Medical University to make greater success in the field of organ transplant in particular and in medical examination and treatment for people as a whole.

He also extended congratulations to Ly Chuong Binh, the 7-year-old patient of the transplant, and his family, and thanks to Japanese experts for their support.

On the occasion of the Vietnamese Doctors’ Day (February 27th), the Prime Minister conveyed his best wishes for health, happiness and success  to physicians and health workers nationwide.

On February 21st, a surgery was conducted by doctors from the Military Hospital 103 in coordination with doctors from the Vietnam Military Medical University and Japanese experts. The lung recipient is seven-year-old Ly Chuong Binh, an ethnic Dao minority. The lung donors are her father, 28, a freelancer and his uncle, 30, also a freelancer. 

After the surgery, the donors’ conditions were stable, and the recipient is under supervision with a stable condition./.
