Vietnamese students win 38 regional and international Olympiad medals

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, in 2018, all 38 students of 7 teams who took part in regional and international Olympiads won medals, including 13 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze medals.

This has been the highest result of Vietnamese students in regional and international Olympiads over the years.

Particularly, Nguyen Phuong Thao from the High School for the Gifted under the VNU University of Science, VNU-Hanoi, got a gold medal at the 2018 International Biology Olympiad (IBO) and very impressively made the highest score out of 261 candidates.

The Ministry of Education and Training reported that results of regional and international Olympiads have improved significantly over the past 10 years. From 2009 to 2012, there were around 30 prizes each year with just a few being gold medals.

Since 2013, the total medals have increased to 35-40, even 42 in 2014 and the number of gold medals has also risen to more than 10 each year. In 2017, Vietnam bagged 14 gold medals, seveb times higher than 2010 and 2011./.
