Ca Mau province shrimp production loses VND260 billion due to salinisation

On May 26th, Chairman of the Ca Mau provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Tien Hai signed a decision announcing aquaculture losses directly caused by natural disaster.

Accordingly, drought and salinisation damaged over 52,000 hectares of shrimp production, amounting to roughly VND260 billion.

Furthermore, hundreds of hectares of fish farms have also been damaged due to the natural disasters.

Authorised agencies have considering giving assistance to aquaculture producers by providing high quality breeding stock to shorten production time.

Earlier, the province declared a natural disaster level 1 on rice production. Accordingly, farmers in the province were assisted with over VND86 billion for the rice losses.

According to the Directorate of Fisheries, as of May 17th, drought and salinisation had damaged 81,413 hectare of shrimp production across eight Mekong River delta localities./.
