He said HCM City is suffering from severe impacts of climate change, adding that many areas in the city are flooded whenever there is rain or tide.

According to Thang, HCM City is home to over 1,000 projects invested by Japanese enterprises with a total investment of over USD355 billion.

For his part, Keiichi Ishii stressed that his country wants to continue cooperating with HCM City in projects to upgrade and develop infrastructure, including those on water supply and drainage.

The same day, the Vietnamese official paid a courtesy visit to Japanese Foreign Minister Kishida Fumio, who expressed his belief that HCM City will continue to be an attractive destination for Japanese investors in the time ahead.

Thang affirmed that HCM City attaches special importance to relations with Japan, hoping that Japanese firms will increase investment in the city./.
