Ho Chi Minh city gives preferential loans to over 1.3 million poor families

From 2003 to 2017, Ho Chi Minh city has provided preferential loans for over 1.3 million poor, nearly-poor and beneficiaries’ families through the city Bank for Social Policies, the bank has reported.

According to the bank, the bank has contributed to helping over 225,000 families escape poverty, creating jobs for over 220,000 labourers, and giving educational loans to 88,000 pupils and students.

“Preferential loans have reached beneficiaries, creating a big economic, political and social effect, while joining hands with the city to ensure social welfare,” said Tran Van Tien, Director of the Ho Chi Minh city Bank for Social Policies.

He added that as of August 31st, the total social policy credit reached over VND2.848 trillion, an increase of VND2.697 trillion compared to 2003. At present, the average preferential credit is estimated at VND8.85 billion per commune, an increase of VND8.38 billion compared to 2003./.
