Ho Chi Minh city strives to reduce traffic accidents by 5% in 2017

In 2017, Ho Chi Minh city is striving to reduce the number of traffic accidents by at least 5%, as well as the number of fatalities and the number of injured people in traffic accidents compared to 2016, while addressing traffic congestion in 37 points, especially in Cat Lai Port and Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

The city People’s Committee assigned the city Traffic Safety Committee and relevant agencies to work closely together to effectively realise the program on reducing traffic congestion and accidents in the 2016-2020 period.

In particular, the city People’s Committee asked the city Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to educate pupils and students on traffic laws; and the city Fatherland Front to disseminate information about traffic safety among its members and grassroots residential areas, and encourage society to obey traffic laws.

The city Public Security was urged to work with the city Department of Transport and district People’s Committees to increase inspection, detection and punishment of violations that lead to traffic accidents; and completely prevent illegal racing in the city.

District People’s Committee Chairpersons will be responsible for realizing the city Party Committee and People’s Committee directions on ensuring street order and addressing disorder at coach stations.

In 2016, the city reported 3,962 traffic accidents, killing 805 people and injuring 3,204 others, an increase of 5.54% in the number of traffic accidents, 103 in the number of fatalities, and a reduction by 97 injured people compared to 2015./.
