The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) will invest in building houses for workers. Accordingly, workers can buy houses by making immediate payment or paying by instalments for 10 years.

So said Bui Van Cuong, 12th PCC member, VGCL President, when talking with the press on the sidelines of the ongoing National Assembly session on June 8th.

“As our estimates, a couple who can save VND1.8-2 million per month for 5-7 years can afford a flat with an area of 30 square metres,” said Mr. Cuong, adding that as this is a non-profitable program, the VGCL receives great attention from localities; accordingly, localities grant land, traffic infrastructure, power and water support to the program, while they exempt tax for construction companies.

Calculations show that each 30-square-metre flat will cost between VND100-150 million.

Under the VGCL regulations, VGCL members who meet housing difficulties and work in industrial and export processing zones will be allowed to buy the low-cost flats. “We have worked with the banking system to give preferential loans to buyers within 10 years,” said Mr. Cuong.

From now until 2018, the VGCL will build 10 institutions for the flats in Ha Nam, Quang Nam and Tien Giang provinces; and continue to build an additional 40 institutions from 2019.

Mr. Cuong confirmed that the first institution, with over 1,000 flats, will be completed for workers in Dong Van industrial zone in Ha Nam province./.
