Held annually since 2008, the social welfare program has contributed to building new style rural areas in Ho Chi Minh city and increasing the farmers’ living standards. Nearly VND80 billion has been collected over the past years, which has helped build 950 charitable houses, give Tet presents to over 12,000 poor farmers, present 50 savings books to families whose members suffer from dangerous diseases, and award scholarships for over 5,300 poor pupils and students.

Addressing the program, Standing Vice Chairman of the city People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem confirmed that the city had always paid attention to support disadvantaged people and poor families. “Many solutions and initiatives have been carried out to bring the achievements of the renewal process to poor farmers,” said Mr. Liem.

During the program, agencies, businesses, organizations and individuals donated over VND11 billion. Under the program, in 2018, an additional 2,000 Tet presents, 100 savings books, 1,500 scholarships, 300 sets of production tools, and 50 houses will be allocated to poor farmers and their family members./.
