Strict inspections against petechial fever before APEC Summit

Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien on July 29th led a delegation to conduct inspection for the prevention of petechial fever in Ho Chi Minh city’s district 12, where an increasingly high number of petechial fever cases has been reported over the past few months.

According to district 12 People’s Committee Chairwoman Trinh Thi My Lan, since the beginning of this year, the district reported 883 cases of petechial fever, a year-on-year increase of 116.3%, contributing to 11,200 cases across 18 of 24 districts in the city, including 4 fatalities.

To deal with complex development of the disease, the city health sector has carried out diverse communications strategies about the disease to increase people’s awareness of prevention, call on all people to kill larva, and fine violations of the disease prevention regulations.

Praising the city’s efforts to prevent the disease, Minister oTien asked the city to make greater efforts to fight the disease for protecting people’s health, and ensure safety for APEC meetings which are scheduled to be held in the city.

She stressed the need to kill larva and mosquitoes to control the disease, give treatment training to hospitals at lower levels, and provide adequate treatment condition for the patients.

To satisfy the sick-beds for petechial fever prevention, according to the city Health Department, from August 1st, the city Children’s Hospital will put into operation the 50 sick-bed infectious department to receive child patients of petechial fever./.
