Donald Trump to visit Japan

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Secretary of Defence James Mattis on August 17th talked with Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono and Defence Minister Itsunori Onodera at the Department of State in preparation for an official visit by President Donald Trump to Japan in the framework of a Security Consultative Committee (“2+2”).

The visit is scheduled to take place in Autumn this year.

Earlier, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited the US in February.

The US-Japan Security Consultative Committee (“2+2”) is the premier forum for discussing issues related to the US-Japan Mutual Cooperation and Security Treaty, including US bases in Japan and Japanese Host Nation Support, as well as regional security issues.

The "2+2" meeting, with Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono and Defence Minister Itsunori Onodera, focused heavily on the threat posed by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s missile launches and nuclear ambitions, Mr. Tillerson said./.
