Deadly storm Friederike hits Western Europe

At least nine people in two countries have died as the deadly storm swept across Western Europe including Germany and the Netherlands.

In Germany, five people were killed, including two fire-fighters working in emergency operations.

Winds reached up to 203 kilometers an hour as the storm, caused disruption for millions of people. 

In the Netherlands, four people were killed by falling trees or debris in separate incidents.

Flights at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, one of the busiest in Europe, were suspended briefly and also two of its three departure terminals were shut down after roof plates were removed by the wind from the terminal building.

Over 300 flights were cancelled and airport authorities announced that passengers should check flights status online or contact their airline./.
