In Singapore, Mr. Ri was expected to try to bolster relations with his counterparts from countries such as those in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, as the DPRK has recently been working to boost its economic growth.

The focus was on whether Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho would meet with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on the sidelines of the regional forum.

Mr. Mike Pompeo arrived in Singapore on August 3rd.

The ARF is a key forum for security dialogue in Asia, complementing the various bilateral alliances and dialogues. It provides a setting in which members can discuss current regional security issues and develop cooperative measures to enhance peace and security in the region.

The ARF is bringing together top diplomats and security policy-makers from 27 countries to Singapore throughout this week.

Mr. Ri is expected to make an official visit to Iran after participating in the meeting.

The Republic of Korea's Kang Kyung-wha is also visiting Singapore./.
