Vladimir Putin sworn in as Russia’s President

On May 7th, Vmir Putin was sworn in for his foladiurth term as Russian President, after winning the election in March.

The President took the oath of office at a ceremony in the Grand Kremlin Palace in the capital, Moscow, 18 years after he first came to power.

“Now, we must use all existing possibilities, first of all for resolving internal urgent tasks of development, for economic and technological breakthroughs, for raising competitiveness in those spheres that determine the future,” he said in his speech to thousands of guests standing in the elaborate Andreevsky Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace and two adjacent halls.

“A new quality of life, well-being, security and people’s health, that’s what’s primary today,” he said.

Once sworn in, Putin will have the right to appoint his preferred candidate for Prime Minister. 

About 67 per cent of Russian citizens took part in the vote, among which 81.1 per cent of the people supported Putin, according to a special research project launched by VTSIOM for the 2018 presidential elections.

Vladimir Putin has been in power since 2000, either as President or Prime Minister. In his fourth term, he will be eligible to serve until 2024.

In previous elections, he got 52.94% votes of the Russians who came to the polls in 2000, 71.31% in 2004 and 63.6% in 2012./.
