Japanese Foreign Minister to visit Russia in October

The Kyodo news agency on September 22nd announced Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida would visit Russia in October to pave the way for a visit to Japan by Russian President Vladimir Putin, due in December.

Kishida expressed his intention to visit Russia before Putin’s December visit during talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 21st.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Putin’s visit to Japan was due at the end of the year, and he would meet with the Russian President in Nagato, the Japanese Prime Minister’s hometown, on December 15th.

The Japanese Foreign Minister also said Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov would visit Tokyo in November to co-chair a session of the bilateral intergovernmental trade and economic commission./.
