Mr. Andrej Babis is the first Czech PM to be invited for talks at the White House in eight years. As scheduled, PM Andrej Babis will meet with President Donald Trump on March 7th.

The visit coincides with the 30th anniversary of the 1989 anti-Communist "Velvet Revolution" and the 20th anniversary of the Czech Republic's membership in NATO, which began in 1999.

Earlier, US Ambassador to the Czech Republic Stephen King announced that President Donald Trump invited Czech PM Andrej Babis to visit the US in March.

“I'm pleased to report that President Trump has extended an official invitation to Prime Minister Andrej Babiš to visit Washington on March 7th as a symbol of our strong bilateral relationship", Ambassador Stephen King wrote about the official invitation on February 20th on Twitter.

According to White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, the bilateral talks should focus on “how best to advance relations” between the two countries as well as issues including cybersecurity, energy security and trade. Czech Ambassador to the US Hynek Kmonicek said he expected pragmatic, open talks.

The invitation to the Czech PM coincided with a visit to Washington by Czech Foreign Minister Tomas Petricek, who is meeting with his US counterpart Mike Pompeo./.
